Title: John Carroll of Armley, Leeds
Post by: ChrisAllonby on Monday 24 October 05 22:06 BST (UK)
John Carroll born in Armley, Leeds in 1837. Married Prescilla Nelson. He is related to me. I have info on his family. Contact me for details.

chris.allonby at virgin.net

Someone called Susan expressed an interest in him on Genes Reunited but I object to the £9.50 fee just to make contact. Susan - if you read this then email me.

Hi Chris,
Regarding Genes Reunited, usually if you get an email notification that someone wants to make contact, you can check the person's message by following the link in the notification email.  Once you have the message up on your screen you should be able to reply to it even though not a paid up member.  I have done this on numerous occasions.

By the way in case you don't know, it's not a good idea to put your email address on any board, far better to ask people to send you a PM and exchange email addresses that way.
Good luck.

Hi Findem,

Good thinking about the email. I've changed the format to stop the inevitable spam. On Genes Reunited can you explain again. I have signed up, but not to the pay service. I can see the name of the person with interest in the name Carroll but how do I prompt her to make contact?

Thanks,
Chris.

Hi Chris,
Sorry, my mistake, I thought that what you meant by "expressed an interest", was that Susan had initiated a contact with you through Genes Reunited.  I thought you had received a notification email but wasn't aware that you could, even as an unpaid member not only read the message at the board but reply to it.
Very sorry to give you false hopes but a couple of people I contacted through GR were not aware that even as non paid up members they could reply to me.  It took a two or three tries on my part before the penny dropped.

Not sure if there is a way for you to make contact as a non paid up member, it might come down to sitting back and waiting for Susan to make the move.  If you have her surname you could try a Google on her name, she might just be on another board under her name.

I only rejoined just recently, I received an email from GR of some "hot hits" on some of my ancestors.  Two people even had my gt grandmother in their tree, so it became worth my while to rejoin and make contact.

Just a thought, if you let me know her full name I could see if I can contact her to contact you.

Good luck.

Hi

Iamresearching the Carroll family for my Stepfather. He knows very little about them.

We are looking for the birth of his Uncle Mark. The only Mark we can find at about the right date, is in your area. Born in Keithley 1897. His fathers name would be Michael born circa 1882.
Do you have any information on them?

Regards Clare

Hi Clare,

As yet I can't link a Mark Carroll into my family, at least not yet. I only have basic information at the moment. If anything comes to light I 'll contact you.

Regards,
Chris.
